Discover Downtown

Over forty businesses have banded together to offer Discover Downtown Augusta: a full day event spurring people to experience all that downtown has to offer – through a passport book stuffed with coupons for free stuff and special offers.
On August 29, from 10 am to 6 pm, shops and restaurants will be giving away free samples of their wares: from vintage clothing to chocolate bars to books to plants to soup to red beans & rice.   A modified reprise of the successful “Brand New Deal” concept from this past March, Discover Downtown will have a similar structure, re-branded with a new look and name. The idea is simple, but effective. Consumers get to experience downtown’s shops, restaurants and businesses and receive free gifts along the way, while the shops reap the benefit of added traffic directed right into their doors.   The key to the event is the passport book (similar to the BND’s Economic Stimulus Package) which will include destination coupons, each redeemable for a free item or special offer. Discover Downtown Passports will be sold in advance and during the event. The passports will cost a mere five dollars – add up the free lip balm from Cloud Nine, free book from The Book Tavern, free hotdog from 1102 Bar & Grill and free fountain drink from Metro A Coffeehouse and the cost is already covered in four stops.  d(a)2 plans to make Discover Downtown an annual event, as the initiative mirrors the same goals of Destination Downtown – building awareness and bringing more foot traffic to the downtown area.
Passports are $5 and are available at
  • blue magnolia
  • The Book Tavern
  • Vintage Ooollee
  • Metro Spirit Office
  • Health Central
  • Oasis Garden
  • Ninth St Wine Market
  • Augusta Visitors Information Center
  • Come Discover what Downtown Augusta has to offer!!!

    play through downtown

The “Play Through Downtown” game combines the excitement of a scavenger hunt and the thrill of golf. Downtown turns into one giant golf course, with eighteen holes (businesses) to play through and win. The rules are simple: pick up a scorecard at any participating business or at the First Friday tent. Walk the course by visiting each hole listed and look for the glass tee. Swing for par (or make a hole in one) by guessing the number of items in the glass tee. Record your scores. Turn in your card for the opportunity to win one of nineteen prizes.

You must hit at least nine holes to be eligible to win. Prizes will be awarded to the persons who get closest to par (by having the closest guess) at each hole. A grand prize, the coveted white jacket, will be awarded to the person who has the most overall accurate guesses.

This year’s eighteen holes of golf are:
Hole #1: The Augusta Canal Interpretive Center (1450 Greene Street)
Hole #2: blue magnolia (1124 Broad Street)
Hole #3: Cloud Nine (1036 Broad Street)
Hole #4: Oasis Garden (1034 Broad Street)
Hole #5: Art on Broad (1028 Broad Street)
Hole #6: Book Tavern (1026 Broad Street)
Hole #7: Midtown Threds (1022 Broad Street)
Hole #8: Modish Salon & Spa (1018 Broad Street)
Hole #9: Zimmerman Gallery (1006 Broad Street)
Hole #10: New Moon Café (1002 Broad Street)
Hole #11: Casa Blanca Café (936 Broad Street)
